All about Djembe Drum
A djembe drum is an African percussion instrument. Its heads are made of goatskin and its body is made of hardwood. This African percussion instrument has a form of a big goblet and it is played using the hands. The name was derived from a Bamanakan saying “Anke dje, anke be” which means “everyone, gather together” and the saying best describes the objective of the instrument.
The proper way of playing the instrument is by distributing the energy of the hand and position the hand in the right spot of the drum. If you strike the skin using the palm of your hand and your fingers toward the middle portion of the drum the instrument will produce a low tone. But if you strike the skin adjacent to the rim using your palm positioned at the top of the rim, the drum will produce a tone and a bash.
There are several Djembe drum that are being sold. Like for instance, the Ruby Pro African Djembe. This instrument has a 13 up to 14 inches of head. Professionals mostly use this type of Djembe because it sounds perfect and it has a beautiful hand carved design on its body. This drum is usually sold for $260.00 or higher.
The African Gold Fiberglass mechanically tuned Djembe has a synthetic 14-inch head. Its estimate cost is $210 to $300. What makes this drum beautiful is its shell that is made of fiberglass. This Djembe is recommended to individuals who have sensitive hands. Also, its drumhead produces a pitchy sound.
If you are looking for the right djembe drum for you, I suggest that you look over the Internet. It would be better for you if you can view the designs of the drum and read its features.
