One of the most successful drum companies in the entire world is Pearl Drums. Pearl was founded by Katsumi Yanagisawa, who began manufacturing music stands in Tokyo back in 1950. He later then founded the named his company "Pearl Industry, Ltd.  In 1965, he thought of a long-range business plan to put Pearl in the forefront of the percussion industry.

Under his plan Pearl would start to develop new products with quality equal to or better than products offered by established brand name companies. It would also install the latest automated machinery in the China factory to increase production. Third the company will establish a sister factory in Taiwan. Finally they would establish a worldwide sales and service network to get the Pearl name out to the entire world.

To go through with the plan, Pearl Drums introduced their first professional drum kit; the "President Series," in 1966 and the sister company in Taiwan became operational in 1973.

Before Pearl Drums was making tremendous drum shells for itself it made them for more than 30 companies. It wasn’t until the1960s when they ceased making shells for other companies, and began manufacturing drums under their own name and used the Pearl logo for the first time.

Today Pearl Drums is one of the biggest and more influential names in all of the music industry. The great overall quality of drums are unmatched by any other company in the industry and the great service you receive from them is also unlike any other you have ever received.
