Electronic Drum Pad

In drum playing, the electronic drum pad play a big role in creating the sound of the drum beat.  Both acoustic and electronic drums have drum pads that are set on top of the cylinder or the shell.  When these drum pads are hit by an implement, usually a drumstick, they produce the sound of the drum beat.  Newer models of the electronic drum kits have electronic drums that are each fitted with an electronic drum pad.  These electronic models are designed to simulate the sound of the drum beat of acoustic drums.  The electronic drum pad has sensors that pick up the trigger of tapping and use them as signals to produce the matching sound.  The resulting sound and volume depends on which part of the electronic drum pad was struck and how hard it was struck. 

Usually, the electronic drum pad is made of a rubber surface or a mesh surface.  Rubber electronic drum pads feel more like practice pads while mesh electronic drum pads are more like the conventional drum head in feel.  Mesh drum pads are known to produce lower sounds than rubber drum pads.  There are also “cymbal” pads in electronic drum sets that simulate the sound of cymbals using drum pads made with rubber coated material.  Mesh electronic drum pads are patented innovations by musical instrument manufacturer Roland.  Before choosing to purchase whichever type of electronic drum pad, it is best to try out both types to see which one feels better to the drummer.  The option to combine both types of drum pads is also available to drummers.
