Drums

Music from drums is characteristic of modern rock music. The sound from this instrument is most defined in the rock genre than other genres. This style of playing uses a combination of a bass drum, a hi hat, and a snare drum to create a drum beat. Tom-toms and cymbals complete the drum kit set up. This set up is known as the rock set up. The standard size for the bass drums is 22”, while snare drums have a head size diameter of 14”. Toms come in 10”, 12”, and 14” diameters. The materials used in making the drum kit sets are also varied. While this is so, there is not much difference in the quality of sound each one produces. These instruments may come in shells made of any one of these materials: Birch, Beech, Mahogany, and Maple.

There are other accessories that could be purchased separately from the basic drum set configuration. Cymbals are often purchased separately along with cymbal stands. In the early 80s popular drummers started using drums and cymbals as well as electronic drums in playing rock music. There were innovations in the drum kit set ups to include double bass pedals and other auxiliary percussion instruments. Electronic equipment was also made part of the basic drum set configuration. These include electronic sound modules, metronomes and tempo meters, and recording devices. Various combinations can now be used in drum kits to create new sounds. Drummers and musicians have a lot of room for to work their musical creativity.
